A gin-based cocktail that also contains vermouth, cherry brandy and fruit syrup. The Rose was a popular cocktail in 1920s Paris and is said to have been created by Johnny Mitta, barman at the Chatham Hotel in Paris.

Ingredients

  • 40ml dry gin
  • 15ml dry vermouth
  • 15ml cherry brandy
  • 2 dashes of strawberry syrup

How to make

  1. Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well
  2. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass

The Old Fashioned cocktail is a whisky based drink that is made by muddling sugar with bitters and then adding the alcohol. It is traditionally served in a short tumbler, called an Old Fashioned glass, named after the drink. It is garnished with a twist of citrus zest.

The drink was developed during the 19th century and given its name in the 1880s and is an International Bartenders Association official cocktail.
