Eggnog is also known as milk punch and is a rich and creamy sweetened cocktail that is traditionally made with cream, sugar, egg and spirits. Many recipes exist, and the alcohol varies from brandy, rum, whisky to bourbon and it can be drunk hot or cold. In the USA and Canada, Eggnog is a traditional drink that is consumed during the Christmas period and can be purchased in grocery stores already prepared. However, it is often homemade, using age-old family recipes; here is just one of many variations.

Ingredients

  • 100ml Cognac
  • 20ml sugar syrup
  • 1 fresh egg - beaten
  • 20ml single cream
  • 80ml milk
  • Grated nutmeg - to garnish

How to make

  1. Pour all the ingredients into a milk pan and heat gently, over a low heat, stirring
  2. Be careful not to boil
  3. Pour into a heatproof serving glass and garnish with some grated nutmeg
